Three-dimensional conformal radiation therapy (3DCRT).
Recent improvements in treatment planning software allow physicians to visualize a patient's anatomy in three dimensions which enables to "conform" a radiation dose more accurate to the shape of an individual's tumour. Three-dimensional treatment planning improves tumor control and reduced treatment related side effect.

IMRT (Intensity Modulated Radiation Therapy)
IMRT allow multiple beamlet by different angle to deliver maximum, conformal and precise radiation to target volume as well as minimium radiation dose to the normal surrounding tissue. We use IMRT for clinical situations where critical normal structures are very close to the tumour or when a higher dose of radiation is required for tumour eradication and in cases which requires re-irradiation.

Image guided radiotherapy (IGRT):
IGRT is a more advanced and newer technique of modern radiotherapy. It is a procedure that refines the delivery of therapeutic radiation by applying image-based target relocalization to allow proper patient repositioning during treatment for the purpose of ensuring accurate treatment and minimizing the volume of normal tisuue.

Stereotactic Radiosurgery ( SRS) and Stereotactic Radiotherapy (SRT)
are technique to administer precisely directed ,high dose irradiation that tighly conforms to an intracranial target (brain tumor) to create maximum tumor cell killing ,while minimizing radiation dose to surrounding normal tissue. This procedure does not involve actual surgery. High precision and accuracy is ensured by special frame to the patient’ head with which the patient is scanned. These images are fed into sophisticated computers where they are fused with diagnostic scan images (MRI/MR angiogram/CT ). The target is localized precisely in dimensional space and radiation is delivered very accurately to the target sparing the nearby tissues.
Mahavir Cancer Sansthan is the only oncology center in Bihar, which is equipped with stereotactic radiotherapy facility.

Brachytherapy or internal radiation therapy:
Brachytherapy involve use of high dose of radiation by inserting radioactive source in or around tumor. Earlier internal radiation required hospital stay for 3 to 5 days in isolated rooms. But presently with HDR High Dose Rate brachytherapy available in our institution, the treatment can be taken on an out-patient basis. The time period of treatment is less than an hour. Brachytherapy is usually delivered in one of two ways:
Intracavitary or intraluminal radiation therapy - commonly used in the treatment of cancer of uterus cervix, vagina, esophagus [food pipe], trachea and bronchus (wind pipes in the neck and lungs), and gallbladder etc.
Interstitial Radiation Therapy -
Commonly used to treat tumors of the head and neck, cervix, breast, limbs, perianal etc.
